OpenIDS Data Standards Working Group (DSWG)

OpenIDS Data Standards Working Group (DSWG)

The Data Standards Working Group (DSWG) brings together insurance industry participants to collaborate on open, community-driven data standards that the entire industry can use, contribute to, and benefit from.

The DSWG serves as the governing body for all workstreams:

  • Initiation: The DSWG identifies and launches workstreams to develop specific data standards.
  • Development: Workstreams build and refine the standard in collaboration with participants.
  • Approval: Completed standards are reviewed and approved by the DSWG for industry use.
  • Direction: The DSWG sets the agenda for future workstreams and priorities.

Through this process, the DSWG ensures that openIDS standards are transparent, inclusive, and designed to drive adoption across the insurance ecosystem.

Homeowners Workstream

Homeowners Workstream

The Homeowners Workstream is the first initiative under the openIDS Data Standards Working Group. Its goal is to develop a residential structure data model that is resilient, flexible, and practical for industry adoption.

This model is being designed to: support smarter reporting and analysis for carriers, regulators, and other stakeholders; and provide a foundation for future extensions to additional property and casualty standards, ensuring long-term relevance and industry impact.

By participating, insurers and industry partners have the opportunity to shape the first openIDS standard, ensuring it meets real-world needs and sets the stage for broader adoption across the insurance ecosystem.
